A PROJECT BY JOSEPH PLEASS

Can we reimagine a better dying practice outside of current British mainstream healthcare?

I’ve Been To Paradise is a video game that allows a player to role-play the experience of going through the process of euthanasia with a loved one aboard a fictional euthanasia-cruise-ship. By using the platform of a video game, Joseph Pleass is creating an empathetic experience that allows players to role-play alternative end of life experiences. The setting of the cruise acts as a platform for speculating on future alternatives to the dying practices that we currently have established e.g. hospices and hospitals. Working alongside the institution Dignity in Dying, Joseph informs the story of the game to include the personal accounts of families who have already been through the euthanasia experience as well as the legal ramifications of its criminal status inside of the United Kingdom.
