Blackrock are the world’s largest investment management corporation. They utilise a powerful software called Alladin that applies algorithms to manage risk across their clients assets. This software operates alongside a lineage of centralised computer systems that operate at an oracular level. Examples include, Project Cybersin the Chilean socialist computer system and the martian machine system from Alexander Bogdanov’s Redstar. I’m interested in the ideological foundations that allow these economic systems to manifest and how the same technologies can be reapplied to perform alternative services. For this project I monitor Blackrock’s stocks alongside a short text on ‘shadow-banking’ that is designed for use on a LED Panel to be shown at stock exchanges. The imagery is a set of mountains designed to be the exact shape of Blackrock’s stock chart.
