Dianthus (Amsterdam, NL) graduated at the Rietveld Academie (Fine Arts) in 2006 and she graduated as a Master Fine Arts at the Sandberg Institute in 2008. She is a multi media artist in the broadest sense. Themes in her work focuses on the ritual, tradition, mythology, desire, female masculinity, literature, history, sexuality, cultural and social identity within a certain context. With new characters (alter ego’s) resulting from this, JLDianthus makes video work, visual poetry, photography, performances, installations and sculptures. The material of the work depends on the subject. She almost always uses herself in her work in which humour plays an important role. JLDianthus also active as curator and organizes exhibitions in Japan, China and various cities in Europe. Together with Anja Masling she founded CINEMA SUNDAYS, an international screening event, art space NEVERNEVERLAND and she was one of the founders of UNFINISHED TALKS. Dianthus was one of the artists and event programmers at deSERVICEGARAGE. She was guest tutor at the Rietveld Academie and the Sandberg Instituut and for the One Minute Foundation and UNICEF she gives video workshops in places like Ethiopia, Mongolia, Pittsburg, New York, Jordan and Libya.
