“IF I CAN’T DANCE I DON’T WANT TO BE PART OF YOUR REVOLUTION”.

Emma Goldman 1931.

The University of the Underground invites you to apply for the second edition of their Research Bureau which offers a tuition-free research programme of 3 months in Amsterdam and Tbilisi. The research program focuses on building connections between the University of the Underground HQ in Amsterdam and Tbilisi whilst bringing together multidisciplinary practitioners and early career researchers investigating disciplines such as dance and its potential in building organised communities and reinventing politics. Of interest to the research bureau ‘If I Can’t Dance I Don’t Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution’ are the historic collisions between dance, politics and organized communities. We will also consider how they can  inspire one another and what would happen if they merge. How do dance parades undermine power structures or create a blueprint for new ones? What can politicians learn from ballerinas or ‘dancing’ boxers and vice versa? How can new forms of debate develop from voguing and how will new systems of government emerge from modern dance or contemporary jazz?

We hope to support the development of experiential visions, audio broadcasts, magical or rational rituals, bodily protests, new power tunes and soundscapes, new languages to empower countercultures now and in the future.

Through the production of both multidimensional experiential projects, workshops, exhibitions, music, films, radio podcasts, and written texts, we are aiming to act as a point of dialogue between stakeholders, politicians, academics, students, and beyond proposing to portray the value of social dreaming, experiences, dance, and theatre as critical research practices.

** Please note the research programme is tuition free but participants are all invited to donate to the best of their ability a minimum amount of their choice to the registered charity of the University of the Underground. The University of The Underground is a charity that supports free, pluralistic and transnational teaching beyond borders.
