Sandrine works in the Office of the Permanent Observer of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to the United Nations in New York, the world organization of parliaments. The Office of the Permanent Observer (OPO) replaced the former Liaison Office following the granting of observer status to the IPU by the General Assembly in November 2002. The overall mandate of the OPO consists of three main components: representation and outreach, information and communications, and project support. In particular, the Office:

  • Represents the IPU at meetings of United Nations bodies in New York, monitors relevant United Nations debates and initiatives, and facilitates the presentation of IPU substantive positions before the United Nations General Assembly and its subsidiary organs;
  • Coordinates the Parliamentary Hearings and other events of the IPU at the United Nations Headquarters in New York;
  • Disseminates information about the IPU and its main activities to the international organisations based in New York as well as to the media and non-governmental organisations;
  • Facilitates the exchange of information and identification of new cooperation opportunities between the United Nations and other agencies based in New York and IPU Headquarters in Geneva;
  • Develops dialogue and cooperation with the United States Congress in Washington DC.
