Deniz Agbaba (1984) is chairwoman of the Flemish Green Party (Groen) in Brussels-Capital Region. She grew up in a Kurdish working-class family in Genk. At the age of 19 she moved to Brussels and obtained a Master in Agogic Sciences at the VUB (University of Brussels). In love with Brussels, she continued to live here. Her dad took part in the many mining strikes in the eighties. She herself had a first job at the age of 13 due to poverty. That inspired her to start working for a Trade Union. Her mother taught her Kurdish activism. That opened up a world of Peace, Pacifism and Migration for her. She is a defender of a social Europe and believes that the climate challenges should be tackled at European level.
